  4. Accenture: Build the best open big data hack - in terms of tech architecture and innovation. For this:

    • You can use any public "big data" dataset. Private datasets are not allowed. Any "open data" source is a very good star, and it can come from any kind of organisation: government, non-profit, private, or individual
    • How are we defining "big data"? Besides the size of data sets, other factors to look out for would be complexity of data fields within the set, multiple data sets being tied together or cross-referenced
    • you do need to be able to demonstrate is good tech architecture, address how to handle scalability, and articulate why it's innovative and unique.
  5. The Matrix StudentHack Challenge! The challenge from Matrix.org, should you choose to accept it, is to build out the coolest and craziest Bot, Integration or Bridge you can think of on top of Matrix.

Our Google Summer of Code ideas page at https://github.com/matrix-org/GSoC/blob/master/IDEAS.md has an overview of Matrix itself and gives an idea at https://github.com/matrix-org/GSoC/blob/master/IDEAS.md#bots--integrations-to-all-the-things of specific bots and integrations you could try to add. Alternatively, you can try to build a proof of concept of anything else from the GSoC list, but bear in mind most of these projects are intended to last several months, not 36 hours!

  6. Barclays

    Challenge 1

Find innovative ways of improving image based Internet searches. You will need to focus on: · how mobile users will interact with this emerging technology · how will this affect the way mobile users search and buy products and services · how will this affect financial service organisations like Barclays.

We will be looking for the best product which: · allows retailers to make sure they are visible to customers who may not recognize their brand or never visit their online site · allows Barclays to make it easy for all the generations (X, Y & Z etc.) to ‘buy now’ the things they want.

Challenge 2

We are looking for the best hack which: · finds innovative ways in which Barclays can use the insight data we have about how our customers interact with and consume financial services to make the products our customers purchase more relevant to them. · provides all related data and analysis when our customers purchase a product An obvious example could be a mortgage app which provides insight data such as crime rates, local school ratings and more for a property search and proposed purchase.
